Good book, it is an easy read with practical content, not a whole lot of theories and concepts. The author takes the idea of public speaking and breaks down all of the parts. From concept, to idea and research, writing the speech, practice, styles and delivery. Even goes over stage freight and how to work through it.Most of all I like how the book flows. I am not much of a reader and to be honest, I had to purchase for a class in school. Fact is, after reading the first chapter, I found myself continuing to read the rest of it.
I'm taking a public speaking course and this is the required book. I found that the format is much easier to follow than most books. The step by step instructions on how to write a speech are clear. The examples that are used in each section are realistic so they are easier to relate to. There are also quote boxes through out the book. I like that. It's almost like a little motivational speaker living on the pages.
Got this for my son in college. I know they are used but man this was trashed! I guess you really do get what you pay for. In the end, they will make do since we don't plan on keeping them long.
It is a helpful book for me to work on my communication skills. It is easily understandable and the author talks to you in a way that it is like he is speaking the words.
Concise. Randy draws parallels to everyday communications and the importance of considering the principles and elements of communication. He covers all you would need to know to improve communication in settings that go beyond the podium.
great book and really simple and easy to read. its a lot of information at once though so you need to read in incraments, i sure did learn a lot and because i needed to read it for my public speaking class. the advice sure did help!
